About the Royal Scientific Society

RSS is the largest applied research institution, consultation and technical service provider in Jordan, with more than 600 members of staff. There are seven technical centers and departments housing 38 specialized laboratories:

  • Building Research Centre (BRC).

  • Electronic Services & Training Centre (ESTC).

  • Environmental Research Centre (ERC).

  • Information Technology Centre (ITC).

  • Mechanical Design & Technology Centre (MDTC).

  • Industrial Chemistry Centre (ICC).

  • Quality Assurance Department (QAD).

There are also three supporting departments: Administrative, Financial, and Marketing and Public Relations.

Facts and Figures

  • RSS was established in 1970 as an independent, not-for-profit non-governmental Organization (NGO).

  • RSS is mainly engaged in scientific and technological R&D, consultation, training, and various support services.

  • RSS is an independent entity with its own Board of Trustees, which is chaired by His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal.

  • RSS is located on a picturesque 85-acre prime site in Al-Jubaiha in northern Amman.

  • The floor area at RSS is 32,000 m², housing a wide array of R&D and technical and support facilities, including 38 accredited specialized laboratories.

  • RSS offers both the public and private sectors unique resources and a wide range of project implementation expertise.

  • There are hundreds of researchers and technical support staff.

  • RSS has established co-operation relations with a great many local and international organizations, thus boasting a solid relational capital.

  • RSS technical centers are members of well-established international consortia.

  • The Princess Sumaya University for Technology, which is an affiliate of RSS, was established in 1991 as a national centre of excellence in IT education. It offers degrees in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, and Computer Engineering. It has plans to expand into Animation, Computer Information Systems (CIS), and Management Information Systems (MIS).
